Description:

2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR

FALL

ON-GOING PROJECT: Every student now has a notebook for this school year. Pages are not only devoted to sketching, but also to an "artist approach to scrapbooking" and ideas (written ideas, quotes from famous artists, etc.).

PROJECT: We are starting off this year with an opportunity to use four different styles and/or artists' tools. Students will pick an object and demonstrate their ability to be creative and diversified in their approaches to interpreting their chosen object. The ELEMENTS & PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN will be explained (for some re-explained) in relation to each persons' project creation.

PROJECT: "Frank Gehry's in the house!"(figuratively speaking)  We're going to build, build, build, using scraps of mat board, map pins of assorted colors, and remnants or cut-outs from wall paper sample books! (Ms. Lott is extremely excited and can hardly wait to see the student creations for this project!)

PROJECT (still in the planning stage): This project will involve untreated canvas and sticks or bamboo.

PROJECT: Students will study the Mayan glyphs from the stelas and learn how to decipher some of the glyphs; they will then invent their original glyhps on textured surfaces with ink.

EXHIBIT PROJECT: Painting on canvas for Zoe's. Paintings by the BRCVPA art students will go on display the first day of WINTER and continue until the end of winter and/or the beginning of spring.

     RECEPTION AT ZOE'S !!!

between 6 PM and 8 PM

     Thursday, December 17, 2009

(the young student artists will eat for FREE in honor of their hard work and creativity)

THANK YOU TO CHAD, THE MANANGER @ ZOES,

FOR GIVING US THIS OPPORTUNITY!

SPRING

PROJECT: The 5th graders will be studying linear perspective using a model of a Durer perspective device to experience what the beginnings of linear perspective was all about, along with learning how to apply perspective rules to their drawings and some simple rules of applying shadows in correct perspective cast by cubes. One point and two point perspective will be taught (to some a review) to these fifth graders, culminating in drawing the school buildings in two point perspective. The fourth and third graders will be learning one point perspective and demonstrate their knowledge by drawing the school hall way. The others will focus on "overlapping".

PROJECT:  Heinz Ketchup Packet Design Contest. This year we will go into great depth in the study of pop-art and certain aspects of design.

PROJECT:  The Jr. Duck Stamp Contest. The students will once again view short videos of their  chosen duck, goose, or swan.  They will study photographs and illustrators' interpretations and the different habitats of their duck, goose or swan. A greater understanding for the value of the National Wildlife Refuge areas will become a major goal. Finally, an original version in stamp design format will be rendered, focusing on the outstanding characteristics and habitat of the student's particular waterfowl. If we don't quack, honk, or whistle our way to drawing recognition, we'll certainly quack, honk, or whistle about the need to preserve the natural landscape for not only waterfowl, but many other species and endangered species.

EXHIBIT PROJECT: We will return to the Bluebonnet Swamp for the Fifth Annual Exhibit!!!  Once again this year the students will be creating artworks inspired from the photography of Mr. John Hartgerink. Mr. Hartgerink has compiled a new CD-Rom full of his photographs (landscapes, racoons, flowers, insects, birds, etc.) exclusively taken at the Bluebonnet Swamp. Thank you Mr. Hartgerink.

PROJECT:  A small project (for example - a bookmark) using some of the many possibilities of PHOTOSHOP.
