• in the District Capital Soil & Water Conservation Poster Contest: from Buchanan Elementary---Sophie S.-1st place and Anna S.-3rd place and from BRCVPA---Amanda F.- 1st place, Angelica D.-1st place, Bailey D.-2nd place, Margaret E.-3rd place, Rumaan E.-3rd place
• the State Winner in the CSWC Poster Contest was Angelica D.

• all talented students from both schools participated in the FUNDRED DOLLAR BILL PROJECT to help cleanup New Orleans after Hurricane KATRINA
• all students participated in the (two annual) exhibits: BREC Bluebonnet Swamp Exhibit and State Archives Exhibit

2008-2009

• Ms. Lott received a grant from the Capital Soil & Water Conservation District which was presented in January 2009. The grant money was used as part of a printing project. Moran Printing donated their services and printed enough 'student-drawn' cards that the students generated monies from card sales to fund a "Conservation Project" for both the Buchanan Elementary and BRCVPA campuses. 
• winners for the 2009 Capital SWCD poster contest this year: Juliane D. and Hannah E. from Buchanan Elementary received Honorable Mention/ from BRCVPA, Margaret E. and Amanda F. received Honorable Mention/ from BRCVPA, 3rd place went to Bailey D. and 2nd place went to Esther L.
• from Buchanan Elementary, Troy P. was the photographed artist on the City of New Orleans website; he was recognized for his artist contributions to the City Hall Exhibit, receiving a certificate of award for the National Arts Contest  "Don't Hide Your Talent"
• Yiming H. and Audrey R. were chosen to represent Buchanan Elementary  and BRCVPA respectively by displaying their art works to promote the 2009 Bluebonnet Swamp Exhibit on the televison show AROUND TOWN
• "2009 Jr. Duck Stamp Contest"  from Buchanan Elementary: 1st place - Cece L.; 2nd place - Varland O. and Michelle S.; Honorable Mention - Hannah E., Sophie S., Anusha Z., Lucy G., Cameron S., & Jerry X.
• "2009 Jr. Duck Stamp Contest" from BRCVPA: 1st place - Dedunu H. and Sawyer L.; 2nd place - Julia C. and Bailey D.; 3rd place - Kelsi C., Amanda F., and Audrey R.; Honorable Mention - Esther L., Madeline M., Darla S., Lindsey W., and Emma P. 
• The "I Care for Eye Care Foundation" sponsored a Pizza Pary for both schools because of the contributions of drawings sent to The Foundation. The drawings were sent to SanFancisco, CA for viewing by the Board of Directors who will use a selected group of drawings for 'internet produced cards'.
